Liu

I’m reading Ken Liu’s The Paper Menagerie and other Stories. Lovely writing — the first story, “The Bookmaking Habits of Select Species,” reminds me of Calvino’s Invisible Cities and Benjamin Rosenbaum‘s Other Cities, but also Sofia Samatar‘s A Stranger in Olondria. It’s not really a story, but a little meditation on book-making, and I think many of you would like it a lot.

The second story was great — the third was, perhaps, a bit too much of a parable about Google and the total surveillance society, rather than a story. But still, enjoyed it, and expect to enjoy the rest of the book. Recommended!

(Now back to reading Survivor anthology subs…)
