I explicitly and repeatedly asked my students to do ONE THING with their papers. They did it on the first set of papers (mostly). How did half of them completely forget the ONE THING between the first paper and the second paper? They summarize to death, far more than needed, but they don't actually quote anything.

Citation needed, people. Normally I am not one to jump on the high school English teacher bashing bandwagon, because I think their job is plenty hard enough. But this semester is the worst I've seen in ten years of teaching for students who write English papers without a single quote from the text.

What is going on???
