Finished up today’s…

Finished up today's postcolonial lit class with a spirited discussion of wedding rings, engagement rings, marriage traditions, would you rather have the down payment on a house?, how come the guy doesn't have to wear a engagement ring to signal that he's off the market now? -- seven students, seven different points of view, all of them strongly felt. :-) Fun times!

(All of this in relationship to the 'bride price' aspect of Wole Soyinka's brilliant sex farce, _The Lion and the Jewel_, the advent of modernity to local cultures, colonialism, etc.)
