When I was a student,…

When I was a student, the campus cops were always so nice to me. They weren't allowed to give us rides home, but students could call and they would trail you in their car, which must have been excruciatingly boring for them. I had a long walk home from campus to my apartment, and once in a while, I was late enough to call for the escort. And then there were the times I locked myself out of my office and needed to call them. They were always so nice. I think that's why I made one of the main characters in my SF novella a campus cop. He's young, underpaid, not really prepared to cope when war breaks out. But when the bombs go off, he runs towards the explosion, not away. I'm glad I handed the book in a week ago. I couldn't bear to work on it now.
