Over the weekend, we…

Over the weekend, we finally installed the Little Free Library Kevin got me for my birthday. It still needs to be painted to match the house -- I may start on that this afternoon. But I loaded it up with books, and this morning, one was gone already! Triumph! I am officially a librarian. :-)

Now I just have to wait to see if other people start putting books in there too...

Close-up of the books in there; the first four are the 'starter books' they sent along with the library, the others are either duplicates we had (Neuromancer, Pale Fire), or no-longer-needed pregnancy books.

  1. Yay! Little Free Libraries are so awesome! My housemate (who’s a librarian) installed one in our front yard.

(It looks like ours has developed a mildew problem, unfortunately 🙁 It’s pretty watertight, but between condensation and patrons leaving the door open, that doesn’t mean things are necessarily dry inside. We’re thinking of collecting those “Do Not Eat” silica gel packets and strategically nestling them in the corners of the box to keep moisture down.)

  2. So pretty and great!

Have you considered leaving it the way it is, perhaps with just a protective coating/finish? It is so cool the way it is. It would be sort of cute painted to match your house, but a bit matchy-matchy.

It looks too unfinished to me. And I’d rather it blended in more than it does now, so it’s a little bit of a secret library. 🙂

  4. Love the Little Library!! I’ll have to give and take one when I’m in Chicago again. To think how libraries have evolved over the centuries -from the Great Library at Ninevah, to the amazing monastic libraries of the Middle Ages, to your Little Free Library in Oak Park.
