I love the structures here -- of course, I love railway stations in general, but it helps when they make them gorgeous. There's something so romantic about the idea of long train rides, and all the fancy curlicues here only add to that effect.
If you go to Sri Lanka, I highly recommend the 1st class air-conditioned observation car (you'll have to get up early to go and pick up your ticket from the station). Ride it from Colombo to Kandy, and then from Kandy up into the high hill country. A stunningly beautiful ride, winding up through the hills, past the tea plantations.
