This writing routine…

This writing routine thing, it's not going so well. Yesterday, I failed to get up in time without an alarm (even though normally, I wake up between 5 - 5:30 no problem.) So last night, I set an alarm, but it was Kevin's iPhone alarm because we still haven't found our alarm clocks while unpacking, and his alarm is hideously loud and awful, and I assumed it was a car alarm outside for a while before he said, sounding quite annoyed, "That's your alarm!"

And I groaned and dragged myself out of bed -- I went to bed at a reasonable hour last night, but was awake with the baby for a while around midnight. And have so far failed to write -- instead, had breakfast, tea, and finished sewing a pillow for our bed. But I actually have time this morning, after I drop the kids off at school, so I'm moving my writing for today to 9-10. Possibly even 9-11. We'll see.

The challenge right now is to get them actually up and dressed -- it's thunderstorming right now, which tends to make them want to stay in bed. And I would let them do it, but Kavi has a field trip today, so we need to be at school by 8:30. Up, up, and away!

10:40 update: 770 words on "Birthstones" (the second Detective Suresh Chandran story). I got to write a nasty little bit of dialogue which was kind of fun -- mostly, my characters aren't quite that awful to each other. Not so overtly, anyway. But Suresh's cousin Ari is an ass. Now I'm off to see what I can manage with organizing the playroom. Even if I don't get it all done before I have to leave for class, hopefully I can make some progress. Because right now, it looks like a bomb went off in there. It's an [obscenity-redacted] disaster.
