I have to put together a…

I have to put together a list of everything I've accomplished professionally in the last few years. (Since I was hired at UIC, September 2008). Yes, I should have been keeping this list all along, no doubt. No, I haven't been. Yes, it's going to hurt, trying to figure out every place I've done a reading or whatever. But I have to try, and it needs to be done today. If anyone is bored and would like to help crowdsource my accomplishments (googling? browsing this journal?), would appreciate the help.

Sadly, having Anand and raising Kavi do not count.

Update: It turns out I do have some of this documented (yay!) -- but it stops in May 2010 (boo!). What have I done for you LATELY?

Update 2: Hmm...does writing two invited guest blogs at Whatever during RaceFail count as 'publishing'? I think they were significant to the community, and I worked hard on them. But -- publishing??

  1. Say your blogs at Whatever got 300 substantive comments, and you can skip the question of whether they were published. Saying 100 readers at Truman College, 200 people at your Wiscon speech would be impressive too.

Hmm…I don’t think they typically list # of comments on these things, or # attending. I think it was close to 1000 comments at Whatever, and 1000 attending the WisCon speech — Truman was more like 100. But it would look a little weird listing those numbers…

  3. The numbers are awkward, but they will impress people that never heard of Whatever or Wiscon. How else would they know how impressive your achievements are?

Heh. I agree in practice, Matt, but in principle, I think it’s just not done to tout numbers in academia. Perhaps because if the true numbers were known (for readers of obscure monograph X), it would be too embarrassing for everyone involved. 🙂
