Progress on the house…

Progress on the house color front, I think. We're pretty happy with downpour blue for the first story base, blueberry for the second story. And I think I might have found a trim color today, darkest grape. It's a medium purple with more grey in it than I'd expected to like, but somehow it grounds the blues really nicely, while still being light enough to be visible as trim. Trying to decide what the fourth color should be -- another blue or purple? Or introduce a red or a green, as we'd originally planned? Hmm...

Again, this is one of the BM standard houses, not our house, so the colors aren't in exactly the right locations. But it'll give you an idea.

Here are some of the things I'd like our house to be: pretty, cheerful, charming, bright, makes you stop, makes you smile. :-) How about you? What do you want your home to look like? What emotions should it evoke?

For my taste, this seems too monochromatic compared to some of your other beautiful options from earlier posts.

Hmm…David, I think I do want a more muted effect. We tried putting some of the brighter colors up, and they’re a little too bright and colorful for my taste — for Chicago, anyway. If I were living in California, I might decide differently…

So I’m trying to get to pretty and colorful, and still cheerful, but without being too carnival / circus / rainbow in effect. 🙂

  3. Hmmm. I’m planning to get my house painted in the fall, and I’m probably going green and purple (!!!). I actually also preferred the brighter colors. I find, living in CT, that I want color in the winter, and I’d like my house to pop a little bit. (I have a Cape-Cod-type…its not a true Cape, its a bit bigger, but looks small from the front) All the neighbors have rather boring dark colors on their houses… And I want to do something that will make people smile when they drive past.

How about a red or yellow just for the sunburst pattern at the roofline?

I kind of like the somewhat more muted effect than some of the previous choices, and I don’t think it’s boring at all. It would make me smile to pass by it, but it wouldn’t make me reach for my sunglasses.
