Okay, I think we’re…

Okay, I think we're totally redoing the basement layout, so ignore that previous floor plan. Sorry! Basic gist -- craft room, now renamed 'work room' to be used for all sorts of stuff (woodworking, sewing, stained glass making, etc.) goes where grow room is on plan, also stretches into mechanicals room to get a bit longer, and stretches into main room to get a bit wider. The rest is mostly one big open space, but with a long, narrow strip along the north wall closed off for a possible small bath and for a beer / utility sink area. Will add a corridor that turns, so you don't have to go through a room to get to the main den / playroom area. New floor plans as soon as David draws them. :-)

  1. I’m curious about sewing and woodworking sharing the same space — i’d expect sawdust would be a slow death for any sewing machine.

(Also: Hello! Have been reading for awhile, but been too nervous to ever comment.)

Hey! I’m not sure we’re actually going to do woodworking — I got Kevin a basic woodworking book for Christmas, but so far it’s definitely theoretical woodworking. 🙂

But that said, I have a cheapo $40 sewing machine from Sears, and it has a cover, so there’s some protection from sawdust, and if it dies, it’s not the end of the world. I am crafty, but not so fancy about it.

  3. Ah, i completely understand! I’m a theoretical papermaker myself. And, thus, have not once made a watery, pulpy mess of my craft space. 🙂

I’m on the other end of the spectrum about my sewing machine — it was only $5 at an estate auction, but it’s a vintage (early ’60s) Italian-made Necchi with lots of cams for detail work, so i’m fairly precious about it.
