Today is an odd mix of…

Today is an odd mix of busy and leisurely -- there are a variety of things happening today, but with lots of space in between. I woke up at 5 (not on purpose; I mean to sleep in a bit, but my body has apparently switched over to its five a.m. wake-up and does not want to sleep later), so had oatmeal and tea and read journals and e-mail and some of Barbara Hambly's Dragonshadow (I'm on a Hambly kick -- she's so good) and watched episode 2:3 of Heroes -- we somehow missed most of last season and are trying to catch up on it now, before the next season starts.

Then, around 8, I started cooking (it's astonishing how much you can do if you get up at 5), and made spinach and feta filling + apple-onion-cinnamon filling to go with chihuahua, all to go inside crepes for brunch with Sorayya, who's stopping by here for a bit before she heads out to the airport and home again. I was tempted to make some kind of shrimp filling too, but I decided to restrain myself -- we can also have some lime-sugar crepes if people feel like it, and that really probably is sufficient. Kavi tried to help mixing the crepe batter, which mostly meant both Jarmila and I working hard to try to keep her hands out of the batter. With only partial success. Batter everywhere. :-)

Later today --- household stuff, updating c.v. I'm actually really liking the UIC job -- the classes are going great, and everyone at the department has been both nice and interesting. But it's fall, and in fall the MLA job list comes out, and thus a middle-aged woman's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of tenure-track jobs. I'm not planning a big job hunt, really I'm not. But there are one or two positions that are awfully tempting. It couldn't hurt to think about applying, could it? Hmm...

This afternoon, I teach a free writing workshop for SAPAC, and then perform my citizenship piece at VOR. I may have to fit in a nap somewhere before that if I want to survive the evening and be in decent shape to drive home afterwards...
