Today: long, tedious…

Today: long, tedious new employee orientation, more office set-up. Kevin and I have very tentative plans to bike to work, starting next Monday (and yes, this is going to require a lot of preparatory training this week; I went half the distance yesterday and was pretty wiped), which means that this week I need to drive in with whatever stuff I need or want -- books for the semester, a little rug, a mini-fridge possibly (for keeping milk cold for my tea mostly, without which I couldn't survive) if the department doesn't have one, etc. and so on.

I'm trying to figure out what I can do productively during the new employee orientation that isn't going to obviously be me not paying attention to all the things they feel the need to say even though they're written down on that nice piece of paper which I, as someone with a Ph.D. after my name, can probably actually read.

The orientation notes also told us that not only would there be no muffins, donuts, etc. (for an orientation starting at 8:30 a.m.), but that there would be no pens. I'm not sure it bodes well for my new place of employment that they can't afford pens.

This afternoon, come home, maybe re-write "Sequins" (sadly, workshop yesterday did not think it was already perfect just as it was), prep for tonight's last summer writing class, and teach class. These classes have been a huge success, by the way -- I think the students have felt like they're getting a lot out of them, and I've certainly enjoyed them quite a bit. Yay! I don't think I'm going to try another 8-week class during the semester, but I might try to do a weekend version in November or so. We'll see.

Oh, I just saw that YOURS is all day. I am so sorry. I recommend bringing something to surreptitiously read.
