The reading on Wednesday…

The reading on Wednesday went splendidly, by the way. I ended up just reading the first three chapters from Arbitrary Passions, and I think people liked it quite a bit, especially when I paused to explain what the book was actually supposed to be about. Really do have to figure out a way to incorporate that into the text on this next revision, since I won't be there to explain the book to most readers. :-)

It was particularly nice getting to meet (and have dinner with afterwards), some of the writers in the Northwestern Creative Writing program. They were so sweet and welcoming! I met John Keene, Brian Bouldrey, and visiting writer Suki Kim. And, of course, got to see the director of the program again, Reg Gibbons.

I really have to find some more time to hang out with other mainstream fiction writers; I know lots of S. Asian diaspora writers, and lots of sf/f writers, but am woefully under-socialized with mainstream writers. Suki was trying to convince me that I really ought to go to some of these writing colonies (and promised to tell me what the good ones are), which sounds grand, but does involve coordinating schedules with Kevin to find time when he can watch Kavi for a few weeks. I'll probably have to bribe him with me watching her for a couple of weeks while he runs off to conferences. And may be a bit tricky to coordinate with another pregnancy, should we be so lucky. Hmm...
