"You Can't Be a Sweet Cucumber in a Vinegar Barrel" -- Fascinating essay by the guy who did the Stanford Prison Experiment on the parallels between that and Abu Ghraib. He's very convincing, although I can understand why most people (self included) find his premise immediately somewhat repulsive. (Note: the page is a bit annoying, because it seems to have a fair bit of excerpts from the main essay before the main essay actually starts, and it's not clearly marked, so your reading experience may be a bit repetitive.)
