It's all in incredibly readable form -- and I say this as someone who generally can't force my way through historical or political articles. I wish I could write like Ghosh.

I'm a little in love with Amitav Ghosh. He's a fabulous fiction author and memorist himself, but here he offers us what is ostensibly a book review of one of the earliest written memoirs, and a fasincating book it sounds -- but at the same time, he packs in a history lesson, entertaining stories from the memoir, and trenchant contemporary political commentary.
