So sad to hear that…

So sad to hear that Octavia Butler died yesterday. She was only fifty-eight, and one of the best, bravest writers I've ever read. I've read all her books, some over and over again. They're marvellous. I've seen her speak once, but never had the chance to meet her or talk with her.

I thought there was plenty of time yet.

Many fine writers have passed away in the last few years, but this is the death that makes me saddest. I'm certain she had so many more good and important books in her, and we've all been cheated of learning from and loving the work she would have done.

Dammit.
