Last four days, hectic with start of school. Today, rest, maybe write. This weekend...

Four DesiLit Events This Weekend

Friday: 6 p.m. - late, DesiLit Fundraiser at Spoon, 1240 N. Wells. Drink specials from 6-8, $10 admission fee goes to raise money for DesiLit events and for earthquake relief efforts in Pakistan. Please spread the word to all your friends and family! Come have fun hanging out with the cool S. Asian literary folks. :-) We promise to be sparkling and witty.

Saturday: 10:30 a.m., brainstorming brunch for S. Asian arts leaders and individual artists in Chicago. We'll talk about ways that we can cross-promote ourselves and support each others' efforts in all artistic endeavors -- music, visual art, literary, dance, film, etc. E-mail me for details on meeting location.

Saturday: 7 p.m. (not actually a DesiLit event, but in the spirit of cross-promotion...) Second Generation (2003, 138 mins., UK) directed by Jon Sen. A fresh, contemporary British South Asian made-for-television drama that has it all: second generation youth living their lives in sync with the pulse of their city - London. The new generation are liberated in their sexual exploits, entangled in family intrigue, and invested in making it in business, and in the underground Asian music scene. Chicago Filmmakers (5243 N. Clark St.), $8

Sunday: 2 p.m. DesiLit Chicago planning meeting. We'll discuss the February upcoming rapid-fire reading by local authors, the March Indu Sundaresan events, and our plan for the rest of the year. Please RSVP if attending. Brunch will be provided.
