I started making plans…

I started making plans for a holiday party, and perhaps inevitably, found myself singing Christmas carols in the process. As I was singing "Good King Wenceslas" I suddenly realized that when I sing this song, I entirely empathize with the king -- seeing the plight of others, leading the way through a horrible storm to relieve their suffering.

And of course, y'know, you're supposed to be taking the role of the page. That's the whole metaphor of the song. God is the king. Somehow I never noticed that before.

This is what they used to call hubris, back in the the good old Greek days, and the gods would strike you down for it. So maybe during thunderstorms, you shouldn't stand too close to me. :-)
