My declaration of jet…

My declaration of jet lag recovery was premature. Crashed at 6 last night, woke at 2:30 a.m. Dangit.

Yesterday was almost entirely swallowed up by promotional work of one sort or another -- scheduling appearances, booking travel, writing long responses to interview questions, asking HC various questions about what they will or won't pay for, etc. It worries me a bit, that so much time can get eaten up with this kind of thing already -- if the book actually does well, there'll be a lot more of it. I suppose if it does really well, I can always hire an assistant, though. Nice dream. :-) No more dealing with spam!!! Oh, how lovely it would be to have a mailbox that only ever had real mail in it...

Would I jump back ten years to a 300 baud dial-up modem in order to no longer have spam? It's almost tempting...

Today is devoted to my students -- I've only finished one response, and am partway through the other three. I need to finish those up. Other than that, the only plans are to get groceries for tomorrow's brunch, put the SLF pins and Nora's travel award check in the mail, drop off dry-cleaning, clean up a bit, and this evening, go see Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle at a friend's house at 8 p.m. If I can stay awake that long...

Hey, if you're looking for something to read, check out Strange Polkas, Paul Ketzle's new journal about writing, academia, politics, etc. Paul was at Utah with me, and is a smart, smart guy. Also sometimes funny. :-) I like this post on narrative structure and blogging. Also his hegemony of negativity, as it relates to critical reviews, Star Wars, and Hitchhiker's Guide.

  1. I’ll be interested to read your review of “Harold and Kumar”. I’ve heard both praise and (pretty damning) criticism of that one, leaving me sitting on the fence about whether I’d want to rent it sometime.
