Very very briefly –…

Very very briefly -- Xmas was lovely, as were Kev's folks, as always. Highlights of presents include a lovely wine wrap which Kevin says looks very writerly and almost as pretentious as the thing he saw Barbara Kingsolver wearing for a tv interview the other day, a dark red snuggle blanket with a pocket for your feet and another pocket to hold your book while you nap, the first season of Alias on DVD, a lovely hand-blown glass pendant striped in mint greens and looking very medieval and jester-ish, a wrought iron candlestick that looks quite a bit like the one in Clue (should I ever need to take someone out, I know how to do it) along with a whole bunch of church candles, my favorite kind of candles, more of the honeysuckle hand cream I love and was almost out of, shipped from Italy by way of Australia, a stained glass window with dragon and moon. And more. I got the most presents of anyone at the Whytes' this year, which means I win. :-)

Am leaving for the airport in thirteen minutes, assuming my cab arrives on time. In transit all day, hopefully getting to Philly by 8:00 in time to be part of a group reading. About 4000 words left on the book -- didn't quite get to finishing it yesterday, though less because of busy-ness and more because of lack of sleep; I've slept perhaps five hours a night for each of the last three nights. Just too tense about upcoming interviews, I suspect. My brain keeps waking me up, saying "Wake up! Wake up!" as if I have important things to do at 3:30 a.m., which I really don't.

Plan for today -- finish draft on plane and in airport. Transfer notes on interviewing schools from computer to notepad. If time, read student pieces for Vermont and write up notes. Get psyched for tomorrow's interviews!

  • 9 a.m. -- Tulane University

  • 11 a.m. -- Case Western Reserve University

  • 3 p.m. -- Miami University

  • 4:30 p.m. -- St. Joseph's

  • 6 p.m. -- Coastal Carolina

  • 7 p.m. -- California State

Given that I'm travelling from warm to bitter cold, I may be slightly overly-inclined to judge these schools based on how cold I'd be if I ended up there. For the above: warm, cold, cold, cold, warm, warm. :-)
