No writing yesterday –…

No writing yesterday -- did the third batch of job apps instead, since there was a 11/10 deadline on some of them. Only a dozen new ones this time around. I think I've applied for about 70 jobs total, though I'm not entirely sure I want some of them. But better to apply than not, I think. I weep for all the trees killed in this process, though; there really should be some centralized database for academic job applications, especially for consideration of writing samples (which can be up to 50 pages each).

Not much else to report; mostly worked on that yesterday, plus prepping for tomorrow's Kriti planning meeting. Updated notes, printed out copies for everyone, contacted some academics that Crystal Parikh (one of my professors at Utah) suggested. Have some more to contact today. I'm a little worried about the speed of finding a Guest of Honor -- we wrote to our first choice, but they say they're unlikely to be able to give us a response within two weeks. If it takes a month or more per person, and we assume that our top five will likely turn us down, then that's too long. We may need to start sending out simultaneous inquiries in a bit. We'll see.

I also crunched budget numbers yesterday -- it looks like doing this festival the way I hope to should cost about $40,000. Oof. That's a scary number to me. I need to talk to some sf convention people to find out if I'm totally out of line anywhere in my numbers. I'm particularly nervous about ticket sales -- since we haven't done this before, it's very hard to predict what ticket sales will actually be. Pre-registration will help with that, but I'm not sure how much....
