Writing days — Susan…

Writing days -- Susan Lee does these in California, and I'm thinking that this fall, I need to do them as well. My current plan is to have a draft of the new novel done by Christmas, which is going to require some serious focusing. I think I'm going to pick four different cafes, and four different days/times, and just put them in my schedule as fixed points. If I'm not actually out of town, I'll be doing this. Saturday 10 - 4 is one, I think. And then Tuesday evening, 5-9. And Thursday afternoons, noon - 5. And Monday mornings, 9 - 1.

I'm scattering these about in the hope that people can join me for some of them. The goal would be to actually quietly write, but it'd be nice to have company -- I find another computer keyboard tapping away to be good motivation for me to focus. So if you're in Chicago and interested in joining me for these, let me know, and I'll let you know when I'll be where.

  1. If you don’t mind if what I’m writing isn’t always my own fiction – but instead work related, this is a great idea! I’ve been thinking that I need to get out of the house more often and that one drawback of working for yourself is spending too much time alone (and thus being to easily tempted to procrastinate and avoid doing the work that needs to be done).

So, count me in especially for the Monday mornings and Thursday afternoons, perhaps the Tuesday evenings, but probalby not the Saturday morning as that’s one of the few times Julia and I can do stuff together (exciting things like shopping at a Farmer’s Market and getting brunch; less exciting things like getting haircuts, doing the grocery shopping, or cleaning our place).
