[Tuesday] morning I got a call from her partner Deb that Laurie was on her way to the hospital with sirens screaming, and could someone meet them there in the ER? Laurie had been sitting on the railing of their porch when it collapsed, sending her tumbling 8-10 feet to the ground. I went, and Laurie was conscious, head immobilized (but with only a scratch on her forehead!), being gone over with a fine-toothed comb by one of the best trauma teams in the world.
Today the news is pretty good: no damage to the head or spinal cord, first of all! She broke a lot of stuff, though: cracked ribs, broken leg & fractured vertebra. Maybe surgery, maybe not. But either way, I'm guessing a long recovery.
If anyone would like to send her a card, here's the address:
PO Box 35862
Boston, MA 02135
And of course, one of the very best things everyone can do is to buy many copies of Laurie's new books: FIRE LOGIC is now out in paperback, and EARTH LOGIC just came out in hardcover (it's the one they were admiring when the railing collapsed...)!
