About 2100 new words so…

About 2100 new words so far, with much napping and reading of cozy English murder mysteries in between. That's sufficient for today, but not so good for yesterday and the day before, so I'm still hoping to write another thousand words or so today. We'll see how it goes -- right now I'm in the bit where Swati is having the easy mystery cleared up for her, but the groundwork for the much more complicated mystery (that she won't even realize is a mystery) is being laid, so I have to be a bit more careful how I go.

It's tricky, putting in enough clues that the reader has some warning that there's something going on, without there being so many clues that Swati would have to be an idiot to miss it. She's not an idiot. She's bewildered, and understandably scared, and in denial, and confused, and above all hugely flattered by a whole lot of attention that's going to be coming her way shortly. But she's not an idiot, and eventually she's going to figure it all out. She just can't figure it out quite yet. Or I wouldn't have a plot, and that would be tragic. :-)

Now I get to figure out if she should actually meet Princess Kamana, or whether they'll just keep missing each other. I think the latter -- it's a little more plausible, and requires less acting on everyone's part. It's not as if these people are *skilled* at deception...
