Morning, munchkins. …

Morning, munchkins. More editing today, of course. It's just that time of the month...

Yesterday, Kevin and I drove back down to Hyde Park around 2-ish. He had a lecture to go to at the math department; I took my copy of Barthelme's _Sixty Stories_ (exam reading) and my laptop to Uncle Joe's (the new name of the upstairs coffeeshop in the Reynolds Club). Two samosas and some chai later, I was humming along on revisions. Worked until 4-ish, when Mirna finished her interview (those suckers are long!) and joined me and Nimmi (my cousin works in Hyde Park, doing research at the hospital) for munchies at the Medici. We ate and drank and chatted, mostly about med school; Nimmi's in the midst of applying. We're a pretty medical family -- I'm the aberration. A genetic sport, as it were. (Although my dad secretly wanted to be a writer too, before his family pushed him into medicine.) At 5:30, we walked back to Eckart (the math building) and picked up Kevin, John and Ian (giving them a ride downtown). Ordered Thai food and vegged out in front of Buffy, hitting the sack pretty early. We were all ready for bed by nine. I think we're all a little sick now.

I didn't sleep great last night, but okay. Dealt with some lingering SH fund drive stuff this morning, sending out t-shirts and mugs and posters. Now I try to edit edit edit. Kev and I have tickets to see Tenessee Williams's The Rose Tattoo at the Goodman tonight, but we're both feeling sick enough that we'd be happy to send Roshani and Tom instead and just stay in and watch tv and babysit Zoe. We'll see. If Roshani and Tom aren't up for it, we'll probably go. We not actively ill -- just not particularly well, either. Mirna's taken my car and gone off for her Northwestern interview; she'll go to my aunt's house tonight to hang with the cousins, and is planning on spending tomorrow with Ann (Roshani's sister, and a good friend of hers). So I think she'll be back sometime tomorrow night. And that's life around here...
