Good morning, munchkins!…

Good morning, munchkins! And happy Father's Day, to all the dads among you! Tom and Roshani are having a Father's Day picnic out at the lake, with various and sundry, so I'll be heading off to that around lunchtime. Fun!

In other news...well, yesterday Kevin left for Zurich, where he'll do math for a month. I suppose that's fun for him. :-) I've discovered that it's not a good idea to watch Buffy late at night without Kevin in the apartment. My future Buffy-watching will be confined to the sunlit hours, I believe. I hung out with him some yesterday, but also wandered off to the mall. I was feeling restless, so I spent a couple hours in Water Tower Place, looking for white button-down shirts. Found some possibilities. I wasn't entirely a neglectful girlfriend, since I also got his watch battery replaced and found him a sleek little silver travel alarm that fits in the palm of your hand and has its own leather case -- a big improvement over the huge plastic monstrosity he had originally planned to lug with him. (He agreed.)

After he left, I spent the evening chatting with Jed, watching tv, and moving all Kevin's clothes out of the closet. Now, it's not as bad as it sounds -- I didn't throw them out the window or anything. I just moved them to the other closet, the smaller one. We weren't using it for anything, which was just silly, since his clothes and mine were crammed tight in the large closet. Now they're a little further apart, but happier. Sometimes that works for us too. :-) Besides, they come together in the laundry basket often enough...

This morning, doing laundry, failing to get ahold of my own father (off at the hospital, running rounds), watering plants (I have multiple plants to water! Yay!), cleaning up. Almost done with all that, or as done as I can be until Heather collects her cats (sometime today). Once they're gone, it'll actually be worth sweeping. Until that, we just put up with dirty feet. In the interim, I think I may work on Roshani's skirt. She really liked the one I made last week, so she picked up a pattern in her size and some fabric with me Friday (before Kev and Tasos and I went to a fabulous (if quite pricey) dinner at this Frontera spinoff whose name I can't remember -- something long and Mexican), and I'll make her a skirt soon. I may time myself; I'm a little curious to see how long it actually takes me to make one of these things. Although maybe not -- this pattern is slightly different than mine, so I'll be slowed down by figuring the new parts out. Hmm....

Oh -- somewhere in the last two days I also read Dragonshadow and Knight of the Demon Queen, and I am so itching to read the final book in this Barbara Hambly series. It's funny -- I almost don't want to recommend them to people, because the first book, Dragonsbane works so damn well as a stand-alone, and it's probably in my top ten fantasy novels by itself, whereas as a set, it's more of a decent fantasy series (one among many). But oh well. Read the rest or not, as you choose, but *definitely* read the first one. So so very good.
